A new publication by the EU Fisheries Control Coalition calls for greater visibility of the small-scale fisheries (SSF) sector, and highlights the facts and benefits of installing electronic tracking and catch reporting systems onboard smaller vessels.
By showcasing recent projects from across Europe where these systems are already operating successfully, the report demonstrates how practical, inexpensive and reliable tracking and logbook technology is widely available and already contributing to safety at sea and the effective management of marine resources.
The EU Fisheries Control Coalition calls on EU decision makers to extend these electronic tracking and catch reporting systems to the whole SSF fleet with the purpose of improving knowledge on their catches and the distribution of their fishing effort.
